Look, No hands
Fooled Ya! I have no pictures of my surgery because I can't take a picture of my own hands! I finally had the Carpel Tunnell surgery done last week on both hands and I also had a tumor removed from my left thumb so I have been out of commission for the last little while. I'm still struggling a little bit but doing better everyday! Thank you to all of you who have helped me with everything from dinners to changing diapers! I can't thank you enough for the assistance!!!! Hopefully I can repay you all in some way.

Something you don't see every day!
I got some pictures of something that you just don't see everyday! There was an airplane that kept landing and taking off on the water right in the same marina as our house boat. It was really amazing to watch and according to Nathan who is a pilot himself, it is exceptionally difficult to take off and land on water in a canyon!

The Shadillak strikes again!
The fishing wasn't the best this time of year but we still did pretty good. We caught enough for dinner one night and we brought a bunch of fillets home for another night! The fishing boat really seems to be making a big difference in our catching abilities! Thank goodness for the Shadillak. Behold the mighty fisherman!!!

Wide Open Spaces
Lake Powell was totally awesome as usual. We did a lot of fishing and playing on the beach. The water was a bit colder than my body can take so we didn't do much swimming this trip but hey, there's always next year! Since the water was a little cold, the kids didn't really want to play in it much either so me make our own little lake with warmer water. Lake Austin was constructed me and my shoveling skills. The water was warmer and the kids loved playing in it all day long. I think that we had to refill it about 3 or 4 times while we were there but it was totally worth it.

Sundays
Sundays just really take it out of us. This was just a precious and quiet moment with my kids!
I guess I make a pretty good pillow; maybe that's what all this fat is for?!

Hot Chocolate Powder
I love hot chocolate which is pretty funny because I do not like anything hot. I'm not a big fan of soup or tea or anything hot except for hot chocolate. Really anything chocolate is good. Bubba totally follows in his mother's footsteps when it comes to our love of the sweat stuff (wait a minute, Nathan loves chocolate even more than I do)! Anyways, I was making myself some hot chocolate yesterday when Bubba decided to get in his highchair and steal my packet mix and eat it. I guess he couldn't resist.

pregnancy aftershocks
I have yet one more complaint about being pregnant. For those of you who don't know, I have crappy pregnancies that start with being so sick I have IV's to feed me and end with me being on tons of medications to not be sick as well as retaining water. Now all pregnancies leave you with a lovely reminder that your body will never be the same. After Austin was born I lost a bunch of hair and gained a bunch of weight, with Paityn I'm still discovering the after shocks. I have started loosing my "new hair" that grew because of the hormones and I'm honestly covered with stretch marks from my neck to my toes. For those of you who have never seen stretch marks on feet and didn't know you could get them there, i will show you mine someday. With Paityn I was lucky enough to hold 40 LBS of water in my skin. My feet swelled up to the point that some days I couldn't even walk and all this water is what caused the stretch marks to happen on my feet. Well due to the extreme swelling that me feet endured, my baby toe nails on each feet started to look as though they were going to die. I was able to save the one on my right foot but the one on my left foot FELL OFF today. Chalk one more crappy aftershock up to being pregnant! I honestly didn't know that having kids would cost me my toenails!

Smashed Potato Soup
1/2 cup coarsley chopped carrot
1/2 cup coarsley chopped celery
1 package refrigerated mashed potatoes (i use the potato pearls from the church and just made them with an extra cup of milk so they are runny.)
1 can (14oz) chicken broth
1/2 cup fat free milk (any milk you have is fine)
1 garlic clove, pressed (i have also minced it and it's good either way)
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 cup sour cream
2 Tbsp snipped fresh parsley or flakes
Optional: Sliced green onions, shredded cheese, cooked and crumbled bacon.
In medium saucepan, add broth and milk until warm then add the mashed potatoes (if using pearls add the extra cup of milk now as well. Whisk until mixture is smooth then stir in carrot, celery, garlic, salt and pepper. Bring to boil (if it gets to thick just add more milk), reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream. Just before serving sprinkle with parsley. Top with the "Optional" items as desired. (I usually add the bacon with everything else because my family likes bacon so we make it part of the soup and it's good that way too.) Yields about 5 cups (4 servings) Can be made in a crock pot on low for 2 hours.

Fun on the farm
We went to Nathan's Sister's house yesterday and Austin got to play with his cousins. They live on a farm and have plenty of space to run around and all sorts of animals to play with! Austin loves it down on the farm and I'm pretty sure if given the choice, that's where he would rather live. Not to mention that Aunt RyLee lives there. She's one of his very favorite people! We also keep our 4 wheeler down at the farm (we don't have space here for it) so this gives Austin the chance to ride it.
This is Austin and his cousins hammering rocks because they are looking for crystals! Fun times!
Austin has a love for animals (maybe a little too much love) and this poor cat was the object of his affections last night.

Crazy driver Mom! Me and Austin on the 4 wheeler riding around the house and farm.
This is Paityn on the counter top at our house. Thanks to Cameron Sweet for letting us borrow his Bumbo chair so that Paityn can learn to sit up!

Breast Cancer Awarness
Yesterday while I was cleaning my mother's house I came across a book that my Grandmother had written. The book has finally been published! My first reaction was to call my mother at work demanding to know where my copy was. Then as I was looking over my mother's copy I began to cry because the realization came to me that my children will never truly know this special woman. She is currently living albeit against her will. She is in horrible pain every day with her back compressing (she is shrinking) and just being old. I wish to tell you about this woman who survived all odds back when Breast Cancer didn't leave survivors.
Her name is Dorothy Hebertson. She was born in 1924 so she grew up during the depression and understands "hard times". She met and married my grandfather Keith Hebertson just before World War 2 (i believe). My Grandfather was enlisted in the Army (along with the rest of the men in this country) and was a "forward observer" for General Patton. His life expectancy was literally 3 seconds due to snipers. He was also among the first soldiers to open the concentration camp and release the prisoners. He was an amazing man who passed away in August of 1995. Keith and Dorothy had 5 children, my mother was #3. Shortly after #5 was born Dorothy was told that she had breast cancer, she was 37 years old. Thus began a 10 year battle against a disease that was somewhat unknown especially on how to treat. During these 10 years she not only raised her 5 children but her brother's 3 children as well. As her cancer fight was drawing to what seemed to be an unhappy end she opted for a relatively new procedure know now as a Mastectomy. She had a double mastectomy in order to remove all of the cancer and anything that could possibly ever bring the cancer back. She was finally cancer free at the age of 48.
Two years ago a cousin of mine was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She is a mother of 4 adorable children who at the time were very young. They ranged in ages of 6 years to 8 month old twins. She also opted for a double mastectomy and a round a chemo to follow. She is now cancer free as well.
My mother found her first lump when I was 5 years old. It turned out to be non cancerous but I will never forget the scare we all felt and my mother's recovery from having the lump removed. These are my first memories that I can recall from my childhood. Then when I was 18 and home from college visiting for Thanksgiving, I had to sign for a certified letter. I called my mom at work and read her the results from her mammogram and once again they had found a lump. My heart literally sank at the thought that my mother would have to fight to live. Thankfully it turned out to be non cancerous again and was successfully removed with surgery. I come from a long line of breast cancer survivors and I'm proud to say that it has yet to claim any of the women in my family and my heart goes out to those families that haven't been so fortunate.
My grandmother has survived so much in life and has still found the time to write a book full of her "Wise counsel and endless suggestions" as a parenting guide dedicated to helping her 14 grandchildren raise her 30 great grandchildren! To this I thank her as well as for all those days and nights that she helped me "endure to the end". I Love You!
